Plan the Perfect Valentine’s Day at Home

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, for those of you who may have forgotten to book those reservations weeks in advance… fear not! You can still host the perfect Valentine’s Day for your loved one in the comfort of your own home instead of trying to get a table at the pizza place around the block! We are going to let you in on a few of our Valentine’s Day secrets, ending with a delicious (and easy to make!) chocolatey dessert from Sumptuous Living!

Your first step is to decorate! Candles are a must; if you are limited on time, search your local grocery store for any candles while shopping for the meal you’re cooking. We recommend candles with a vanilla or rose scent, or any sweet scent you prefer. If you are prepping in advance stop by your local Bath and Body Works and shop through their Valentine’s collections. Check out your local flower shop while you are buying flowers as some shops will also carry candles. That brings us to your next decoration: flowers! Don’t forget the flowers, they will always be a Valentine’s Day staple. Roses are of course the quintessential Valentine’s Day flower. Your last decoration might be the cheesiest but is the most amusing: all things heart-shaped. Anything heart-shaped will do, heart-shaped soap, heart-shaped candy, heart-shaped napkins, a heart-shaped box for the heart-shaped jewelry you have purchased, you get the picture.

Next step is setting the mood. While your food is cooking in the oven set up all your candles and other decorations. Set the table with all your heart shaped purchases and place your flowers in a vase in the centre of the table. Next choose the music; we would recommend staying away from the mushy love songs as you may find yourself wincing at some of the lyrics during dinner, distracting you from your date’s conversation. Instead find something more relaxing, and soothing, and that is light on the “pouring my heart out” lyrics; Jazz may be your best bet. Once all this is done check on dinner, go get changed into something more appropriate for a date, and wait for your loved one to arrive!

Step three: eat your meal together. We would recommend choosing a meal that won’t keep you in the kitchen the entire night, leaving your date alone at the table. Instead opt for something you can throw in the oven while starting your night off sharing some light appetizers or a small salad. Bring out a nice bottle of wine to go along with your dinner and propose a toast to spending a beautiful evening with your loved one.

Lastly, whip up the amazing Chocolate Pots De Crème recipe we found on! There is nothing better then a five minute recipe that involves chocolate. We have listed the easy to follow recipe below for you. After enjoying the dessert together, our advice stops here- the rest of the night is yours to decide!

Chocolate Pots De Creme

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Author: Mandy Landefeld

* 2 cups dark chocolate chips

* 4 eggs at room temp

* 3 tbs. brandy, divided

* pinch of salt

* 8 oz. very hot strong coffee

* 1 cup heavy cream

* 1 tsp sugar

In a blender, place the chocolate, eggs, 2 tbs. brandy and salt in the blender. Pulse well to break up the chocolate. Then turn the blender on to run and slowly pour in the hot coffee (coffee must be hot here). Continue blending until mixture is thick and creamy smooth. Pour into small martini glasses or mason jars. Place in the fridge to cool (I place all my glasses onto one tray for easier transport). Meanwhile whip the cream with sugar and remaining 1 tbs. brandy until you have stiff peaks. Top on chocolate crème.
